Somerton's Squire Storms it on Viaduct

Fish’O’Mania XXV made its second sell-out visit to the spectacular Viaduct fisheries in Somerton South-West England on Saturday.

With lots of cold rain over the previous week, expectations were not high, however these fears were soon long gone once fishing had commenced. The venue fished exceptionally over the five hours, with the top ten anglers all exceeding 100lbs and 60lb needed for 30th.

Top place and qualifying for the final was local angler Daniel Squire (Preston Innovation Thatchers/M5 Angling). Drawing peg 112, an in form area on Campbell Lake, Daniel amassed a superb winning weight of 197lb 7oz by fishing pellet on the long pole shallow, to land carp up to 10lbs.

Second place went to another venue regular who just missed out on qualification by one good fish. Ben Hagg (Guru/Dynamite Baits) was on peg 18, Spring Lake and fished the pellet waggler to the island. Ben fed through three pints of pellets to land carp up to 19lb and recorded an agonising 188lb 4oz.

Third on the day was Cardiff angler Steve Shaw (Mossella UK). Steve also drew on Campbell lake, peg 115 and landed 133lb 3oz, fishing the bomb with 8mm pellet on the hook.

Fourth was Richie Hull (Garbolino) with 124lb 5oz from peg 10 on Spring Lake and finally Salisbury based Steve Trevett came fifth with 124lb 4oz of carp on the pellet waggler from peg 129 on Campbell Lake.

Our thanks must go to Steve and the team at Viaduct fisheries for hosting such an exciting and well attended match. We head north for the next round of qualification on the popular Lindholme Fisheries, for which there are still tickets available for through the booking site.
