Lucas Is First 2019 FishO Qualifier
Fish’O’Mania kicked off with a bang at its historical opening venue Viaduct Fisheries and although the intense gales made for some tricky angling conditions, it certainly didn’t put off the carp. At the draw there were a few seasoned finalists and certainly one man tipped heavily on social media was Andy Power on the favoured peg 77 on Cary.
However, one man who can never be ignored on his home venue is 2015 finalist Roland Lucas, and so he proved again as he took apart the competition to finish over 50lbs clear of the field. Roland was his usual humble self on the marked achievement of making his second final, “Fished a really simple match on the bomb, pinging 6mm’s to 20 meters and fishing 8’s and 6’s over the top”. Roland took around 20 carp up to 12lb and made the most of his favoured peg 133 on Campbell Lake, totalling an impressive 189lb 8oz.
Second place saw a much closer affair and it was only at the weigh in that venue regular Norman Sterry took the second spot and £200 cash with 148lb 15oz. This was also made up of large carp on the bomb and pellet, casting across to the far bank margin on peg 90, Cary Lake.
Terry Winstone was the man narrowly edged out into third place, with a respectable 141lb 12oz from peg 128 on Campbell Lake.
Our thanks must go to Matt and the team at Viaduct Fisheries, to Nigel Franks for running the match, and to all that anglers that fought off the challenging conditions!
