Ford Flies Through to FishO Final

The sixth round of Fish’O’Mania XXV made its way to the midland match mecca that is Woodland View Fishery. At the draw there was plenty of talk surrounding which lake would produce the best weight with Back Dean, Front Dean, Hay and Ghost all having some favourable pegs. It was Ghost lake that eventually came out on top and produced the best weight from the 117 anglers, who all enjoyed themselves in some much-needed sunshine!

Early in the match there were a number of anglers who were catching well; Jonathan Harvey who was benefitting from some extra space on Back Deans pool, Andy Geldart on Arles and Sam Collett on Hay. However, it was Daiwa Gordon league/Mosella/Marukyu backed angler Steve Ford on Ghost pool, who was also benefitting from some extra space (from no shows) that kept on catching to take this round of Fish‘O’Mania.

Steve stormed the match with an impressive 179 lbs. This consisted of 38 carp to 8lbs, using pellet and corn with both shallow and margin tactics paying dividends. This means that Steve has qualified for the final in his first qualifier for over 14 years, and a huge congratulations to him!

Second on the day was Sam Collett who put together a meaty 133lb 4oz from peg 9 on Hay lake. Sam fished a busy match dobbing for the cruising carp, who were also enjoying the sunshine, taking most of his fish on caster. Sam commented that unfortunately he ‘stopped catching in the last two hours’, otherwise he could have run Steve close.

Rounding out the top three and taking away £130 was Chris Small who put 130lb 12oz on the scales. Sam also caught shallow on caster and put a weight of roach and Carp to 6lb together. Regardless of the disappointing close call Chris commented ‘a great days fishing at Woodlands again’.

Our thanks must go to Mike, Denise and the team at Woodland View for another cracking qualifier. Thanks must also go to Mark Treasure for dealing with a tricky qualifier due to no shows.

Anglers are reminded that they must inform either the fishery or the organiser if they can’t make a match and thus we can adjust the match accordingly. The next qualifier is at the ever-consistent Tunnel Barn Farm for which there will be an allocation of on spec, on the day tickets.
